Sensei Dave Hazard
Sensei Hazard

The Shotokan of England Karate Union was founded in 1982 and has grown to become one of the largest Karate Associations in England.

SEKU is led by

Chief Instructor
Mick Dewey 7th Dan

Technical Director
Dave Hazard 6th Dan

General Secretary
Mervyn O'Donnell 6th Dan

These three have been training in Karate for a combined total of almost a century!

Sensei Dewey is a former national and international competitor as is Sensei Hazard who has lived and studied in Japan and teaches Karate throughout the world.

As its name implies, SEKU practices Shotokan Karate. The most popular and widely taught of all the styles of this martial art.

Karate in the form we know it, originated in Okinawa and Japan. The name is formed from the two Japanese words - Kara, meaning 'empty' and Te, meaning 'hand'. Thus this art of the 'empty hand' shows that the practitioners are conventionally weaponless although using the armory of their own bodies.
